"Gees Bend 1 / Triptych 3" is one of three print reproduction blocks from the original quilt 'Gees Bend 1", the first in a series of original art quilts by Momma Rose started after a 2017 visit to Gees Bend, Alabama and interaction with a few of the Gees Bend Quilt Collective members. This group of artists was discovered in the 1980's and have exhibited their work in the Museum of Modern Art.. Their iconic abstract, geometric, and slightly wonky designs have influenced modern art quilters. for decades and have become much studied and timeless classics much like the exacting works of the Amish tradition. This print reproduction is just one of the original vertical design of three log cabin blocks assembled from custom made stripes pieced from solid cotton fabric. The sashiko hand quilting adds a soft handmade dimensional quality to the original and a visual complement to the print version. The full set of three triptych squares make a dynamic wall grouping that may be arranged in a vertical or landscape format to enhance the contemporary or transitional home or office decor.
